The city of Shorewood, Minnesota features six parks totaling 100 acres in addition to being connected to regional trails and Lake Minnetonka itself. With so much designated park land, and their connection to Lake Minnetonka, residents of Shorewood have a number of outdoor recreational options to explore. Some of the most notable examples include:
Lake Minnetonka: Shorewood has access to one of Minnesota’s greatest lakes, Lake Minnetonka. This massive lake has a very close-knit community and connection to it helps to link Shorewood to its neighboring cities. In addition to its scenic beauty, Lake Minnetonka has a number of Yacht clubs, and community events that take place in and around it throughout the year.
Freeman Park: Shorewood’s premier community park, Freeman Park features both active and passive recreational options. For those seeking activity, Freeman Park offers two playgrounds, numerous baseball and soccer fields, and volleyball courts. Additionally, in the winter time, an ice skating rink and sledding hill open up. For those desiring a more passive outdoor experience, Freeman Park provides picnic tables and shelters, outdoor grils, a concessions stand, water fountains, and wooded trails. With year-round amenities, Freeman Park is a destination that the whole family can enjoy. It is also home to many community events during the warmer months.
Manor Park: Manor Park offers everything needed for an afternoon grill-out. With outdoor grills, picnic tables, a picnic shelter, water fountains, a playground, tennis and volleyball courts, and a softball field, this park is the perfect destination to entertain family and friends. During the winter months an ice rink and warming house are made available to the public.
Gideon Glen: A 5.8-acre parcel of land intended as an educational and environmental preservation area, Gideon Glen features some of the last remaining old-growth forests in the area. These rare, over 200-year old trees will help to give residents a sense of what the Lake Minnetonka area was like in pre-settlement times. With observation areas and informational kiosks on site, visitors will be transported back to a time when the habitat looked vastly different.
Lake Minnetonka LRT Regional Trail: Stretching on for about 27 miles between two corridors, the LRT Regional Trail connects the city of Shorewood to its nearby neighbors. The north corridor begins in the city of Hopkins and connects through Minnetonka, Greenwood, Deephaven, Excelsior, Shorewood, and Victoria. The south corridor of the trail also begins in Hopkins. It runs southwest for 11.5 miles and connects through Minnetonka, Eden Prairie, and Chanhassen. Pedestrians, bikers, and cross-country skiers from Shorewood, as well as the surrounding cities, can enjoy these long miles of trails year round and easily use them to travel between cities.
