Where you are right now

It's 10:43 p.m. on a Tuesday. The inspection report is eighty-six pages long. You've read the first thirteen pages twice and you still don't know if the house is fine or a colossal hidden money pit. Your spouse is across the table asking what you think, and you honestly really don't know. It's overwhelming, to say the least.

What’s my home worth?A clear, local estimate for your street, not just the city.

The inspector flagged it. The agent said it's nothing. One contractor said four thousand, the other said eleven. The lender needs an answer by Friday. Everyone has an opinion, most of them get paid when you decide, and underneath all of it is the thing you haven't said out loud: what if we get this wrong, and there's no one to blame but us?

Not one of them can answer the only question that matters: who here actually understands you, this journey, and what you really want — and can explain all eighty-six pages of it clearly enough that you finally understand it too? Who actually cares? And when it comes down to it, who can you truly trust?

David Olson built his career to be the answer to that question.

He learned to swing a hammer beside his grandpa in rural Minnesota long before he was ever building homes or writing contracts. He spent years as a pastor, learning to listen to what people weren't saying. And for more than two decades he has been a real estate broker and home builder, with over three thousand homes closed across the Twin Cities, Minnesota's lake country, Wisconsin and Florida.

Along the way he became the rare person who holds all the pieces at once. He is a licensed broker, a licensed builder and a licensed insurance agent. When he walks a house with you, he sees what the inspector will find, what the repair will cost, what the lender will say and what the policy will cover, before anyone else has opened their mouth. The noise goes quiet, because the one person who can hear through all of it is standing next to you.

But the thing David actually believes is simpler than any of that. A home isn't a structure. It's the life you share inside it with the people that you love the most. It's where your daughter learns to ride a bike, where the dog sleeps at the foot of the bed, where the light hits the kitchen on a Saturday morning, where someone is singing off-key in the shower and the whole house is laughing about it. He knows this because he lives it, in Chaska with his wife and three daughters, and at the family cabin on the Whitefish Chain, where he paints wildlife with his girls when the work is done.

So he doesn't match you to a house. He matches you to the life you truly want and need, and then he makes sure the house can hold it.

You don't need to sort out who to trust. You just need one person who has done it over three thousand times.

I understand where you are. I’m ready when you are.

My story

I won’t forget who flew me home.

I sell. I inspect. I build.

My story

The people who matter show up when you can’t

Most people work with a realtor the way they work with a plumber. Urgent, transactional, gone by Friday. I work differently, because I learned early that the people who matter are the ones who show up when you can't.

"Boy recovers from accident" by Sandy Barich

The flight

August 22nd, 1985. I was four and a half years old when a catastrophic accident put me in the back of a North Memorial helicopter — one of their first medivac patients ever. A flight nurse named Bob Field kept me alive on that ride. I don't remember it. But I've spent forty years remembering what it cost other people to save me.

The thread

Somebody showed up

That's the thread. Not the licenses, not the three states, not the years. The thread is: somebody showed up when I couldn't show up for myself. And I've been trying to be that somebody for others ever since.

The work

Pastor, builder, broker

I became a pastor because I wanted to sit with people in the hard rooms. I became a builder because I wanted to understand what a house is made of before I ever told anyone what it was worth. I broker in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Florida because a home is the biggest thing most of us will ever buy — and it deserves someone who's been on both sides of that door. Someone who brings design and creativity into every project, not just the finish.

The art

Guitar, charity and tiny hands

I play guitar because beauty is the one language that doesn't need a contract. I play free for charity, because music is something I can give that doesn't run out. It’s been a fun family tradition to paint wildlife with my daughters.

The promise

Protection is a promise

I also sell insurance, because protection isn't a product — it's a promise. The same promise that kept me alive at four and a half.

For you

One person carrying all of it

So when you work with me, you're not getting a guy with a database and a script. You're getting creativity with art and music, real skills with building, deep knowledge about insurance and protection, and two decades of selling houses for people who needed someone. One person carrying all of it — a holistic approach to the most important transaction of your life.

You shouldn't have to almost die to find someone who'll show up. When it's time to sell or buy a home — I'll be there too.

I'm David Olson. I sell. I inspect. I build. And I won't forget who flew me home.

The causes I show up for

Somebody showed up for me. These are some of the people and places I show up to help now.
I show up for these causes the same way I show up for the families I serve.
