Neighborhood

Fulton is in the Southwest community of Minneapolis and it borders the suburb of Edina. It’s bordered on the north by 47th Street West, on the east by Penn Avenue South, on the south by 54th Street West, and on the west by France Avenue South. The beautiful Lake Harriet rests in Fulton’s northeast corner and Minnehaha Creek runs directly through. The neighborhood derives its name from Robert Fulton, who was the engineer and artist who created the steamboat in the 19th century. Fulton is divided by 50th Street West, which is a commercial strip that travels all the way into Edina. This is mainly a residential neighborhood, with houses that were assembled predominantly in the 1920’s and 30’s.

Fulton is one of the most popular neighborhoods in Minneapolis because it offers its 6,000 residents many unique features. It has delightful, well-maintained homes at a variety of price ranges, enormous shopping areas at 50th and France nearby Southdale area, lovely outdoor recreation for any age at Lake Harriet and Pershing Park, the best schools, and a convenient commute by car or bus to Downtown Minneapolis and other business districts. Much of the homes in Fulton comprise of single family homes. The most typical architectural types are Craftsman, Bungalow, and Foursquare.

There are several popular restaurants located within the Fulton neighborhood. Fig & Fiddle is the neighborhood’s favorite pub at 50th and France. They have the finest drinks collection in the area, an enjoyable and frequently updated wine menu, and a full assortment of spirits served by friendly and professional staff in a cozy and approachable environment. The menu showcases recognizable pub favorites and items that combine well with the drinks that are available. It’s the kind of place where patrons and locals want to go on their days off, meet up with friends, have a drink, and share a laugh. Located in the neighborhood, Broders’ Pasta Bar has taken the art of making fresh pasta further than anyone. They take pride in their ability to be as unique as possible. All of the 20 or so pasta dishes and risotto on the menu are cooked to order and served to please. Patrons at the bar get the best view of the pasta chefs cooking their dish, which is always carefully prepared. Broders’ is also known for its Italian market with imported goods, and fresh, Italian-style pizzas.

The Fulton neighborhood is home to two parks. They include:

Pershing Field Park: Pershing Field Park is an 8.5 acre park located in the northwest corner of the Fulton neighborhood offering several recreational amenities. In close proximity to the Minneapolis Southwest High School, Pershing Field Park is often utilized by young families and community youth. The park has baseball/softball fields, a basketball court, playground, soccer field, tennis courts, a wading pool, and walking paths. It also contains the Pershing Recreation Center which includes a community kitchen, craft room, meeting room, and a multipurpose room.

Lake Harriet Park: Lake Harriet Park is one of the most picturesque and stunning lakes found within the Twin Cities area. As a part of the Minneapolis Chain of Lakes Regional Park, Lake Harriet is a well-known tourist attraction that draws in millions of visitors annually. Whether it be biking or walking on the paths around the lake, going for a swim at the beach, launching the boat into the lake’s waters, or catching a concert at the beautiful bandshell, Lake Harriet Park has something to offer for everyone. Guests from all around the world travel to this area to enjoy its scenic beauty and invigorating atmosphere. Lake Harriet Park also features gardens, fishing piers, playgrounds, restroom facilities, and a large pavilion near the bandshell. The pavilion is a particularly busy location due to its proximity to the bandshell and its convenient restaurant Bread & Pickle. With 470 acres to explore, visitors to Lake Harriet can comfortably spend the entire day at the park, making it a cherished and wildly popular outdoor destination.
