Chaska, Minnesota
Highland Shores, on Lake Jonathan in northern Chaska.

If you’re renting at Highland Shores, you already know the best parts of this corner of Chaska: Lake Jonathan out the window and nearly everything you need across the street.

Highland Shores is an apartment community on Lake Jonathan in northern Chaska, with studio, one- and two-bedroom units, a community room and a fitness center. It’s a comfortable place to live, and for many people it’s also where a new question begins: what would it take to own a home nearby?

That’s the question I love helping people answer.

Thinking about buying instead of renting?Let’s see what your budget actually buys in Chaska.

Why this part of Chaska works

Chaska Commons Shopping Center is right across the street, with much of the city’s shopping, dining and groceries. Hazeltine National, the Chaska Town Course, the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum and Two Twelve Medical Center are all close. See Chaska golf courses and Chaska parks and trails.

There are townhomes and single-family homes for sale throughout nearby neighborhoods, including the Jonathan community and its trail system.

What to know before you buy nearby

  • Schools: This part of Chaska is served by School District 112 (Eastern Carver County Schools). Chaska Middle School West is one of the closest schools. Other nearby options include Chaska Elementary, Pioneer Ridge Middle School, Chaska High School and Southwest Christian High School. Boundaries can change, so confirm the assigned schools for any address with the district.
  • Budget: As an owner, your monthly cost includes the mortgage, taxes, insurance and any association dues. Talk to a lender early so you know your real number.
  • Commute: Highway 212 is the main route toward Eden Prairie and Minneapolis. Test the drive at rush hour before you buy.

A simple plan for your Chaska move

I’ve been helping people buy and sell homes for about two decades, and I started in the trades. I look at a home the way a builder would, and I’ll tell you plainly what I see.

1Get clear on the numbersFor sellers, a realistic value for your specific home. For buyers, what your budget actually buys in the neighborhoods you like.
2Walk it with a builder’s eyeWe spot what an inspector is likely to flag before it becomes a negotiation.
3Prepare or positionSellers get a prep list and a staging plan. Buyers get a short list of homes that truly fit.
4Move with confidenceOffers, inspections and closing, with one steady guide keeping it calm and on schedule.

Getting the house ready, or making it yours

If you’re ready for something custom, Ivy Lane Homes does luxury home building and remodeling. And a quick coverage check with Intrinsic Insurance before closing can save you a surprise.
