Downtown Victoria MN is located on the shores of Stieger Lake. The boat launch is on the Southeast corner of the lake and accessed from Steiger Lake Lane near the Lake Minnetonka Regional Trail.
Stieger Lake is 158 acres and is a unique resource for the Twin Cities Metro Area. It is surrounded by Carver Park Reserve. The lake has had special regulations in place requiring the release of all northern pike and largemouth bass since 1988. Boats are limited to 10 mph at all times, and there is a fishing pier to allow for shore angling access. Stieger Lake is a productive lake with northern pike, largemouth bass, black crappie, bluegill, and walleye along with other assorted fish.
Side note for fishing: Because Steiger is catch and release only for bass and pike, it can make for some really good action. Sucker minnows or crankbaits along the outside edges of the weedline work great. If no fish, try deeper. Smaller sunfish are up in shallow water, while larger sunfish are out deeper in 10-15 feet of water. Try Flu-Flu jigs tipped with a wax worm when fishing deep.
The local Fire Department puts on an annual ice fishing contest in February on Steiger Lake and registration is $2, which includes entry to the raffle.
