Lake of the Isles is a beautiful lake in Minneapolis which is connected with Cedar Lake and Lake Calhoun. Lake of the Isle is home to numerous activities year round such as boating, swimming, paved walking paths, bike paths, ice skating, and much more. Lake of the Isles is bustling with activity and recreational options are never in short supply. The Lake itself covers a total of 109 acres with 2.86 miles of shoreline and a maximum depth of 31 feet. Lake of the Isles was first used by the Native Dakota people who called the lake Wita Tomna meaning 4 islands lake. As long as Minneapolis has been around, residents have flocked to the Lake because of its natural beauty. In the early 20th century, the lake was dredged to create more parkland. Two islands on the south end were converted into parkland leaving only two islands left on the lake. Although Lake of the Isles is mostly a man made lake, its natural beauty and numerous amenities make it one of the most attractive lakes in the area.

There are three neighborhoods in particular that surround Lake of the Isles including the Kenwood, Lowry Hill, and East Isles neighborhoods. Kenwood is a 95 acre neighborhood located on the west side of Minneapolis with excellent housing and rich history. There are several different housing styles within Kenwood that portray the neighborhoods historical past. The most notable housing styles within kenwood are large mediterranean, colonial, and arts and crafts style homes most of which are facing Lake of the Isles. Lowry Hill is a more residential neighborhood with 20th century styled homes and multi unit apartment buildings. Lowry Hill is also full of numerous businesses including bars, restaurants, grocery stores, coffee shops, and several small businesses.

Kenwood Park is located on the north end of Lake of the Isles offering numerous outdoor activities available to all residents. Kenwood Park features a picnic area, grills, playground equipment, softball field, tennis court, and walking path. Kenwood Park is the perfect destination to enjoy the beauty surrounding Lake of the Isles.
Lake of the Isles Park is a beautiful park surrounding Lake of the Isles. Lake of the Isles Park offers numerous recreational activities including a biking path, fishing pier, canoeing, hockey rink, ice skating rink, soccer field, walking path, and more. Other amenities include decorative fountain, drinking fountain, and canoe racks. Lake of the Isles is an excellent park for enjoying fun activities in a beautiful setting.
