Prospect Knolls occupies some of the highest land in Edina.The Prospect Knolls neighborhood is located in the Southwest quadrant of the city of Edina and has a population of 1,400 residents. It is bordered on the north by 70th Street, on the east by Cahill Road, on the south by Dewey Hill Road, and on the west by Gleason Road. Within this traditional and residential neighborhood is the historical source of the area’s first settlement. The corner of 70th and Cahill was the initial Cahill Village, established in the mid-1800’s. Here there was a corner store, St. Patrick’s Church, Cahill School, and eventually Calvary Church. Until the 1950’s this intersection endured as “village like” area with rural roots. Today most of the area is now the local park.
Prospect Knolls is a pleasant area nestled between two magnificent parks, Braemar Golf Course, and Lewis Ridge Park. Most of the neighborhood consists of hilly roads ascending up towards 70th street, therefore the “Knolls” in the namesake. Prospect Knolls was developed in the 1970’s and 80’s, with most of the 300 homes being one and two story in style.
Braemar Golf Course: The Braemar Golf Course encompasses the majority of the Braemar Hills neighborhood, and borders Prospect Knolls. At 500 acres, Braemar features 27 regulation holes, two 9-hole executive courses, a pro shop, driving range, practice putting green, indoor golf dome, banquet and meeting rooms and much more. Braemar also offers golf lessons, rules and etiquette clinics and leagues for visitors to learn the sport of golf or to hone in on their skills. Having been rated in the top 75 public golf courses in the nation by Golf Digest, the Braemar Golf Course is a staple of the local community.
Prospect Knolls is home to one park:
Lewis Park: Lewis Park is one of the city of Edina’s athletic parks. At 21 acres, the park features numerous ball fields and amenities related to an active outdoor recreational experience. Visitors enjoy the two soccer fields, two football fields, tennis courts, playground, warming house and hockey rink. With year-round activity and lots of room to run around, Lewis Park is an integral component of the Prospect Knolls neighborhood and the city of Edina as a whole.
Residents of the Prospect Knolls Neighborhood are served by Independent School District 273 also known as Edina Public Schools. Edina Public Schools is a nationally recognized district serving 8,500 students and is dedicated to providing the best educational experience for each students. The closest school to the neighborhood is Valley View Middle School. Valley View Middle School serves 1,396 students in 6th through 9th grade providing an excellent academic program designed to help each succeed. Other schools in the area include Creek Valley Elementary School, Highlands Elementary School, South View Middle School, and Edina High School.
