With 35 percent of the population under the age of 18, the city of Lakeville recognizes the importance of outstanding schools. The community is served by Independent School Districts 192, 194, and 196; each of which consistently produces students who score above the national average on achievement tests. Independent School District 194, also known as Lakeville Public School District, serves the majority of schools in Lakeville with approximately 10,800 students enrolled in 18 different schools.
Century Middle School is one of the highest rated middle schools in the south metro area. The school’s community is dedicated to inspiring, educating, developing, and guiding all of their students for the changing world. At Century, over 900 students and 100 staff members collectively embrace the concept of continuous improvement. The school offers a wide variety of classes including an honors class in science, social studies, and English as well as accelerated math courses.
Another school in Lakeville that has been consistently recognized for its excellent education is Lake Marion Elementary School. The school is a learning community that recognizes and celebrates the diversity, strengths, and inquisitive spirit of every child. The school was honored as a “Reward School” by the Minnesota Department of Education in 2014, a status reserved only for the top 15 percent of Title I schools in Minnesota. The school serves 533 students from grades K-5.
Within the city of Lakeville, there are several private schools that provide premium education. One of these schools is Christian Heritage Academy. At Christian Heritage, the mission is to educate students with excellent academics that place Christ at the beginning and end of all knowledge. Because of its size, Christian Heritage’s small classes allow teachers to attend to students individually. CHA students score an average 1.8 grades above grade level on the annual Iowa Test Basic Skills assessment. Sports at CHA include basketball, broomball, dance, and cross country.
Lakeville North High School is one of two high schools within the city of Lakeville. The high school’s vision is to partner with students, families, and community to create a culture of learning and provide support and resources necessary to achieve at high levels. The school serves 1,732 students from grades 9-12. During the 2009-10 school year, Lakeville North was recognized with the Blue Ribbon School Award of Excellence by the United States Department of Education, which is the highest award an American school can receive. Athletics is an intricate part of Lakeville North High School’s community. The school has won multiple state championships in cross-country, volleyball, alpine skiing, track, basketball, and swimming. Students are given the opportunity to earn college and high school credits in their junior and senior year through Post Secondary.
