Eastside Park: Eastside Park is the perfect destination to experience the outdoors. Numerous different recreational activities exist on the park grounds such as tennis, baseball, and basketball. Northdale Park: Located in northern Oakdale, Northdale Park has recreational activities to offer throughout the year. In the winter, residents enjoy skating on the park’s hockey rink and bundling up in the warming house. During the warmer months of the year, Northdale is a popular destination to practice archery and play baseball. Northdale is also perfect for picnicking, with grills and picnic tables scattered across the park.

Oakdale Nature Preserve: The Oakdale Nature Preserve is the hub of activity for outdoor enthusiasts. This park is a 220 acre passive recreational area that consists mainly of woods and prairies. Those walking or hiking along the park’s extensive trail system have the chance to observe the area’s natural wildlife, which includes foxes, turkeys, squirrels, rabbits, and deer. Mud Lake, located on the northern side of the preserve, is the beautiful location for birdwatchers, where a variety of different fowl such as Hooded Merganser, Pied-billed Grebe, and Tundra Swan can be seen. Oakdale Nature Preserve also features a discovery center that contains a wildlife exhibit area, community interests exhibits, rotating art, a fireplace, and a meeting place. During the winter, the preserve is a popular destination for cross-country skiing, with a large abundance of trails that wind through the 220 acres of land. Other amenities include playground equipment, tennis courts, picnic tables, and grills.

Richard Walton Park: One of the larger parks in Oakdale is Richard Walton Park. Walton Park, located in the southern half of Oakdale, hosts many of the city’s sporting events on its tennis courts, football field, basketball court, and a softball complex. A skating park is also located in the park, which is used by both residents of Oakdale and neighboring cities. During the winter, Walton Park’s skating rink is open for locals to enjoy. The park’s most unique feature, however, is its bandshell and pavilion, which are used for many of the city’s events including the annual Summerfest celebration, Family Fun Flatables, and Touch-A-Truck. During the summer, the bandshell also hosts free concerts and the city’s farmers market.

Tanners Park & Lake: Tanners Park is the destination for summer fun. Residents enjoy water activities such as boating, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, and swimming on Tanners Lake. Relaxing on the park’s spacious beach is the perfect way to catch some rays and soak in the outdoors. Recreational activities also exist within the park with amenities such as volleyball courts, basketball court, and baseball field.
