The city of Coates originated in the early 1900s as a post office hub for the United States Postal Service. In 1953, the City was incorporated in the northwest corner of Vermillion Township. The city received it name after the Civil War Captain Henry C. Coates who served in the first Minnesota Volunteer Infantry.

Today, the city of Coates is an attractive community because of its simple lifestyle and small town feel. Residents enjoy the peaceful setting of a small town while still having access to amenities in nearby suburbs. This community is an ideal destination for anyone looking for the perfect blend of a small town and big city.

What’s my home worth?A clear, local estimate for your street, not just the city.
