Vadnais Heights, Minnesota started out as a small, agricultural town. However, the prompting of major highway access prompted the growth of this city until it became the thriving place that it is today. In the 1840’s, there were three families that settled the area of modern day Vadnais Heights. these Canadian families went by the names of Bibeau, Vadnais, Garceau, and Morrisette. They made their homes near what is now known as Vadnais Lake. When Minnesota became a state in 1858, the settlement became part of the White Bear Township in order to have at least a minimal existence on the map.
Nealy a century later, the section of the township grew to 2,000 residents, and they all voted on an annexation. They renamed themselves as an incorporated village called Village of Vadnais Heights. It received its name from Lake Vadnais, which was named after Jean Vadnais. With permission from the state legislature in 1974, the village became a city.
By the 1990’s the city wanted to develop infrastructure, and they built along County Road E in order to develop all the way to Interstate 35E This resulted in the building of shops, restaurants, and entertainment along that highway. Currently, Vadnais Heights is a thriving suburban community that is well within reach of larger suburbs, as well as the Twin Cities.
