Pentagon Park takes its name from an office park complex. It is situated in the Southeast quadrant of the city of Edina. It is bordered on the north by 76th Street, on the east by France Avenue, on the south by Viking Drive, and on the west by Highway 100. The neighborhood is mainly office space, with 11 commercial office buildings built during the late 60’s/early 70’s and now being renovated. Along with Cahill, it is one of the two Edina neighborhoods without permanent residents.
Edina has discussed with developers the consideration of including residential development to the neighborhood in future phases, which could be either rental units or ownership units of housing, however there are no official plans. If there are plans that develop at some point, it will be several years down the road. Although this neighborhood is all office space, it is beneficial for the residents to understand what it offers for employment and business needs. The Nine Mile Creek Regional Trail will eventually come through Pentagon Park when it is finished in 2017. Also, Fred Richards Park is under construction and will become a park in the future that has many uses.
Pentagon Park was one of the first suburban office parks in the state. It was a well known commercial and industrial project that led to many other commercial developments in the area between Highway 100 and France Avenue on Edina’s southern border. Pentagon Park may not sound like an affluent neighborhood, but it does add important significance to a city of luxury homes and gracious living.
The area includes an LA Fitness, where many Edina residents go to exercise, a few restaurants, including a Chili’s and two pizza restaurants, educational institutions of DeVry University Edina, Minnesota and Minnesota State Mankato, as well as office buildings that host companies such as Seagate Technology, the American Heart Association, and Barker-Hammer Assoc, Inc. In addition to offering commercial and employment options for Edina’s residents, Pentagon Park puts Edina on the map as one of the suburban employment cities of the western metro area.
Residents of the Cahill Neighborhood are served by Independent School District 273 also known as Edina Public Schools. Edina Public Schools is a nationally recognized district serving 8,500 students and is dedicated to providing the best educational experience for each students. The closest school to the neighborhood is Valley View Middle School. Valley View Middle School serves 1,396 students in 6th through 9th grade providing an excellent academic program designed to help each succeed. Other schools in the area include Creek Valley Elementary School, Highlands Elementary School, South View Middle School, and Edina High School.
