The city of Waconia Minnesota is very much united and active. With around 11,500 residents, Waconia provides a smaller-town feel while simultaneously offering a vast number of community amenities and events. This wealth of activity is uncharacteristic of a town its size and truly helps to set Waconia apart from similar-sized suburbs in the western Twin Cities metro area.
Residents of Waconia enjoy the numerous events that take place year-round in their community. Some of the most popular summer events include music and movies in the park, art crawls, the Lake Waconia triathlon, and the popular Lake Waconia 4th of July Fireworks Show. One of the rowdiest events is the Waconia Rodeo, which takes place at the Carver County fairgrounds. A two-day event featuring all sorts of rodeo entertainment, this event is a highlight for the whole family. The most popular community event, however, is Nickle Dickle Day, an annual town festival in September. On an artistic note, the Waconia Performing Arts Center is a local business that specializes in dance instruction and dance productions. Students at the school can study ballet, jazz, tap and modern dance styles. The Waconia 6 Movie Theater is a popular destination for families and features the newest movie releases as well as a free summer movie program for kids. In addition to the businesses listed, Waconia is home to numerous places of worship, a number of local farms, wineries, and breweries, and the Island View Golf Club, a semi-private 18-hole golf course.
Waconia offers it’s residents a number of amenities. It has an extensive Senior Services program in place for seniors living in the community. Also available are community education courses offering instruction on a wide range of subjects. Waconia is located on Lake Waconia, the 2nd largest lake in the 7-county metropolitan area, and is very close to Lake Minnetonka. Residents of Waconia are able to enjoy a number of amenities in the surrounding cities.
