With around 30 percent of its residents under the age of 18, the city of Eagan prioritizes education. Eagan is served by three different school districts: Independent School District 191, Independent School District 196, and Independent School District 197. Overall, the city has 1 high school, 2 middle schools, 12 elementary schools, three private schools, and 2 colleges.
Dakota Hills Middle School prides itself on its outstanding education. Students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades achieve average or better scores on the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment. The school’s missions is to aid students in developing excellence through knowledge. Dakota Hills students excel in music, film, technology, and art classes. The school also realizes the importance of providing advanced education for gifted students with its gifted, talented, and special education programs. Baseball, cross country, softball, tennis, swimming, and diving athletics are also available for students.
Another school that provides excellent education for students is Glacier Hills Elementary School of Arts and Sciences. Glacier Hills has received both the Magnet School of Excellence Award and the Magnet School of Distinction Award, which are awarded to magnet schools that show a commitment to high academic standards, curriculum innovation, successful desegregation and diversity efforts, and the consistent delivery of high quality educational services to all stakeholders. In all curricular areas, teachers excel in infusing the arts and sciences. The school’s mission is to teach students the academic and social skills necessary to be lifelong learners and positive contributors of society. Two extracurricular clubs are offered in robotics and students council/government.
The city of Eagan also has a wide variety of private schools, including Trinity Lone Oak Lutheran School. The school serves grades K-8 with academically rigorous education modeled on Christian values and principles. In 2006, Trinity Lone Oak was named a Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education by achieving tests scores in the top 10 percent of the nation’s schools. The school also has basketball, baseball, cross country, soccer, and volleyball teams.
Eagan is home to one high school. Eagan High School serves around 2,400 students from grades 9-12. Twice the school has been named a Blue Ribbon School and a Nationally Recognized School of Excellence by the U.S. Department of Education. In 2012, 2013, and 2014, Eagan High School was ranked the top high school in the state by US News. Over 500 trimester courses are offered in 14 subject areas along with a full range of special education, work-based learning, and career development courses. Eagan High School is especially known for its outstanding fine arts program and use of technology. Approximately 27 interscholastic athletic activities are offered and a variety of intramural sports, including floor hockey, adaptive hockey, and softball for special needs students. The mission statement is to engage students in activities that foster the knowledge, skills, and habits of mind necessary to active learners, purposeful thinkers, and responsible citizens.
Rasmussen College has campuses located in cities nationwide, including Eagan. Established in 1900, Rasmussen has helped thousands of students prepare for successful careers.
