The Highlands neighborhood isn’t one of Edina’s most densely populated neighborhoods, with only about 1,050 people, but it is one of the most important in Edina’s history. Highlands is situated in the northwest quadrant of the city of Edina. The neighborhood is bordered on the north by Interlachen Boulevard, on the east by Hanson Road, on the south by Vernon Avenue, and on the west by Heather Lane. Highlands is home to Highlands Elementary School, Highlands Lake and Park, and a part of Garden Park.
This mainly residential neighborhood has a very hilly landscape, resulting in its given name, as well as numerous curving streets. In addition to highlands, the neighborhood also has valleys and wetlands. It is one of the more popular neighborhoods, mostly because of how renowned the school is. The 310 houses are mainly ramblers that were built in the 1950’s and 60’s. The Highlands neighborhood feels similar to a gated community. The northwestern corner of the neighborhood borders the revered Interlachen Country Club.

Highland Park: Highland Park is a 44-acre park that includes playing fields, tennis courts, hiking paths, and a hockey rink and warming house in the wintertime. Visitors enjoy the lush scenery, and the soccer fields are a particularly popular amenity due to the large practice field available between games. With its great amenities and engaging environment, Highland Park is an integral component of the Highland neighborhood.
Residents of the Highlands Neighborhood are served by Independent School District 273 also known as Edina Public Schools. Edina Public Schools is a nationally recognized district serving 8,500 students and is dedicated to providing the best educational experience for each students. The closest school to the neighborhood is Highlands Elementary School. Highlands Elementary is one of six elementary schools in the district and specialized in offering a Continuous Progress and Discovery Program. Highlands serves serves 580 students and has a student/teacher ratio of 16.2. Other schools in the area include South View Middle School, Concord Elementary School, Valley View Middle School, and Edina High School.
