Chowen Park is situated in the Northeast quadrant of the city of Edina. It is bordered on the North by 54th Street, on the East by Xerxes Avenue, on the South by 60th Street, and the West by France Avenue. This residential neighborhood has a population of 1,600 with two parks within its borders, York Park and also the park from which the neighborhood’s name derives, Chowen Park. Minnehaha Creek wanders its way through the neighborhood, providing an excellent source of scenery for many locals. The majority of the homes in the Chowen Park neighborhood are mainly mid-century ramblers that were built during the 1920’s, 30’s, 40’s.
Chowen Park is unique in that it has alleyways. The only other places that have alleys in Edina are in the Brookside Heights Addition in the Grandview neighborhood and parts of Presidents and Interlachen Park. Chowen Park is one of the more compactly and largely populated neighborhoods in Edina, which is noteworthy due to the fact that most of the houses in the neighborhood were built in the late 1940s and early 1950s.
York Park: York Park is one of two parks found within the Chowen Park neighborhood. It is located along the northern end of the neighborhood adjacent to Minnehaha Creek and offers numerous recreational amenities. While the only amenities found within the park are a baseball field and a playground, York Park is utilized for local ball games and visitors enjoy the scenic beauty of the nearby creek.
Chowen Park: Chowen Park shares the name of the neighborhood in which it resides. While not altogether very large, the park’s central location and great amenities make it a neighborhood favorite. With a playground, foursquare court, basketball court, soccer field, and open space, the park is an integral part of the surrounding community. Local youth, young families, and those desiring outdoor recreation all appreciate the amenities that Chowen Park offers.
Residents of the Golf Terrace Heights Neighborhood are served by Independent School District 273 also known as Edina Public Schools. Edina Public Schools is a nationally recognized district serving 8,500 students and is dedicated to providing the best educational experience for each students. The closest school to the neighborhood is South View Middle School. South View Middle School serves 1,334 students providing an excellent academic program designed to help each succeed. Other schools in the area include Normandale Elementary School, Highlands Elementary School, Valley View Middle School, and Edina High School.
