The Field neighborhood, is located in the Nokomis community. Field is named for the local school, which was named after Eugene Field, a popular writer of children’s poetry. Mainly a residential neighborhood, it features a close-knit community of just over 2,500 residents.

Field is conveniently positioned less than 5 miles from downtown Minneapolis, and just east of 35W as well as about halfway between Lake Harriet and Lake Nokomis. The neighborhood is bordered to the south by Minnehaha Creek, which provides a path for walking, running, or biking.

There were two major building surges that were responsible for the development found in the Field neighborhood. The first spurt was in the 1920’s and 30’s, initialized by the use of stucco, with larger two-storey Tudor homes. The second spurt occurred after WW II, featuring story-and-a-half starter homes often built with brick.

The Turtle Bread Company is one of several businesses within the neighborhood. A local bakery specializing in artisan breads, pastries, and desserts, the Turtle Bread Company has been baking since 1994. With several locations around the city, Turtle Bread believes that quality bread takes time, hence the turtle in the name. Visitors can also enjoy breakfast and lunch at the bakery.

Town Hall Tap is a local favorite bar and grill. Owned and operated by the well-renowned Town Hall Brewery, “The Tap” hosts a wide variety of specialty microbrews and a rotating selection of guest beers. Additionally, visitors can enjoy a variety of pub foods.

For many years, Pepito’s has been a popular Mexican attraction for not only the neighborhood, but also the Twin Cities Area. While the Field neighborhood does not have any established parks, the Minnehaha Creek Parkway runs along the southern end of the neighborhood. Visitors can enjoy the creek while biking and running along the paths or having a picnic.
