Lake Susan is located in Chanhassen, north of Highway 212 and west of Great Plains Blvd, part of the Riley Creek water- shed. It was named after Susan Hazeltine, a local schoolteacher from the family that settled the area. Lake Susan is a recreational lake used for both shing and boating. The topography of the Lake Susan watershed is characterized by rolling hills with depressions lled with ponds and wetlands.

It has 88 acres and has a maximum depth of 17 feet and an average depth of 10 feet. Water clarity is fair and phosphorus is moderate. Invasive species include Common Carp, Curlyleaf Pondweed, and Eurasian Watermilfoil. Black Crappie, Bluegill, Northern Pike and Black Bullhead are the most abundant common fish species.

For the past 40 years, Lake Susan water quality has consistently failed to meet the clean water standards set by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA). Water clarity has improved in the last ten years, possibly due in part to the management of carp, but nutrient levels remain high. There are also plans a filtration system to treat stormwater flowing into Lake Susan. The structure, called a spent-lime treatment system, will remove phosphorus, a nutrient that can cause cloudy water and algae blooms and is contributing to poor water quality in Lake Susan

Lake Susan park is a 33-acre park is rich with amenities. It contains a picnic shelters, 2 sand volleyball courts, 2 tennis courts, a baseball field, a basketball court, beautiful playground equipment, a fishing pier, and a boat access. This park also has a trail that travels along the lake

Also along the lake is Lake Susan Preserve is 59 acres and all natural wooded and wetland areas with walking trails.
