Consistently ranked in the top 10 places to live in Minnesota, and even rated “best place to live in the United States” by CNN’s Money Magazine in 2010, Eden Prairie Minnesota is widely recognized as a great city. But what is it that makes living in this city so highly sought-after? While its beautiful parks, rich history, and impressive schools all factor in to this overall ranking, one of the most important factors is Eden Prairie’s dynamic community. With community events that happen year round, extensive programs that are offered for people of all ages, and a fabulous job market within the city itself, Eden Prairie truly offers a community rivaling all others in Minnesota.
One of the most prevalent examples of this strong community is the highly effective Parks and Recreation department. Each year, the Parks and Recreation department puts on a number of community events that help to bring the community together. Whether it be free movie screenings or community theater productions in the Staring Lake Park amphitheater, local art appreciation events, community park cleanups, the annual fall harvest celebration, or community competitions, the Parks and Recreation department invests countless hours into fostering a close-knit community.
Eden Prairie also has it’s own shopping and community centers. The Eden Prairie Center features 120 shops and restaurants as well as an 18-screen movie theater. With department stores, clothing, dining, and entertainment options, Eden Prairie Center is a one-stop destination for all of your shopping needs. The community center features exercise facilities, an aquatic center, and fitness classes. It allows for individual as well as family packages, and hosts a myriad of community activities throughout the year.
There are a number of other community locations all throughout the community. One of the most unique is the Smith Coffee & Cafe located in the historic Smith Douglas More house off of Eden Prairie Road. This coffee shop offers a spacious and quiet atmosphere all within the confines of the cities most historic home. Another community location is the Eden Prairie library. This state-of-the-art library facility is conveniently located near the Eden Prairie Center and is a part of the Hennepin County library system. Additionally, there are a number of churches in Eden Prairie that offer a range of community events and groups.
A final example of the dynamic community within the city is the infrastructure. Eden Prairie is connected to the Greater Minneapolis-St. Paul area through the metro transit station located in close proximity to Eden Prairie Center. It is also the home of Flying Cloud airport, which is an airport housing smaller aircraft. With future plans for light rail development to take place from Minneapolis to Eden Prairie. The infrastructure in this great community offers its residents the ability to journey to the excitement of downtown Minneapolis all from the comfort of their own suburban home.
