While best known for its location on Lake Minnetonka, the city of Wayzata, MN has an extensive system of beautiful parks and trails. With 16 parks, two major trails, and two docks available to the public, Wayzata is full of wonderful options for outdoors enthusiasts. Some of the most notable examples include:

Lake Minnetonka: Wayzata has access to one of Minnesota’s greatest lakes, Lake Minnetonka. This massive lake has a very close-knit community and connection to it helps to link Wayzata to its neighboring cities. In addition to its scenic beauty, Lake Minnetonka has a number of Yacht clubs, and community events that take place throughout the year.

Wayzata Beach and Marina: Located on the north side of Lake Minnetonka, the Wayzata Beach and Marina is a prime location for summer recreation. A favorite among local families, this park features a beautiful sandy beach, a public dock, Adirondack chairs, picnic areas, a playground, volleyball courts, outdoor shower facilities, and restrooms. On particularly hot, sunny days, the beach offers plenty of shaded picnic and rest areas to escape from the sun. Additionally, during the summer months concessions are sold and watercraft rental is available, truly making this destination a summer paradise.

Shaver Park: Featuring outdoor grills, picnic areas, and a sand volleyball court, Shaver park is a great destination for a peaceful summer afternoon. Located near the Wayzata Beach and Marina, and a short walking distance from a beach house with public restrooms, Shaver park has everything you need for a perfect day at the park. In addition, Shaver park is home to the historic Trapper’s Cabin.

Dakota Rail Trail: The Dakota Rail Trail consists of 25.5 miles of hard surface biking and walking trails that stretch from the city of Wayzata all the way to Mayer, Minnesota. Along the entire trail, bikers and walkers are treated to scenic panoramas of Lake Minnetonka. The trail is an especially gorgeous location in the spring when the trees are budding, and in the fall when the leaves are changing.

Luce Line Trail: What was once a railroad line that transported people to downtown Minneapolis on electrically-propelled trains has been converted into 63 miles of trails developed for biking and mountain biking, horseback riding, hiking, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling. With trails running from Plymouth in the western suburbs to Cosmos in west-central Minnesota, the Luce Line Trail is a fabulous way to be active and explore nature.
