Minnetonka Beach Schools, located in school district 277, offer the perks that result from having a smaller community. Each child is known by name and receives the attention and support they need for success and growth. Although the schools are smaller in size, they manage to keep pace with the larger districts in the area in terms of academic, arts, and athletics. The district hosts a preschool, two elementary schools, a middle, and a high school.
Just a few minutes west from Minnetonka Beach in the city of Mound is Shirley Hills, a fantastic elementary school that focuses on meeting students’ academic, social, and emotional needs. Shirley Hills has no shortage of recognitions and awards. In 2011, they were recognized for both the “Minnesota Promising Practice Character Award” and as a “Wellness By Design School” for producing a safe and healthy school environment. The school exercises technological integration within its program by providing the students with their own devices during the academic year.
Also just a few minutes west, the main private school in the area is Our Lady of the Lake Catholic School. The school enrolls students in kindergarten through 8th grade, and focuses on keeping up with modern-day learning, as it strives to push its students forward.
Mound Westonka High School is located in the nearby city of Minnetrista. The high school offers diverse academic opportunities, small class sizes of no more than 30 students, AP courses, PSEO opportunities, and a whole lot more. Mound Westonka High School also offers 30 different athletics programs, as well as several arts and leadership programs. According to the U.S. News & World Report, the high school ranked within the top 20 in the state. This ranking is likely a result of how prepared each student is for post-secondary education. Mound Westonka High School truly represents a place that has small school advantages, but big school opportunities.
