The city of Dayton, Minnesota has a population of close to 5,000 residents. As the northernmost city in Hennepin county, residents enjoy a semi-rural community with very little commercial development. While most of the city is within Hennepin county, part of the city is located in Wright county as well. Residents choose to live in Dayton due to its tranquil and secluded setting that still allows for accessibility to the metro area.

There are several factors that play a role in shaping the community within Dayton. While events do not happen all too often within Dayton, the largest community event each year is Dayton Heritage Day. A celebration of historic life in Dayton, the event includes food, live entertainment, games, and a parade. Other events include city meetings and small get-togethers at the local activity center.

Amenities within Dayton also play a role in the community development. Dayton partners with the nearby city of Champlin to provide athletics teams for youth. The Champlin-Dayton Athletic Association is volunteer based and runs teams from pre-K all the way up to 12th grade. Another amenity that residents make use of is the Dayton Activity Center. Serving as the home for Dayton’s senior services, the Activity Center is a great location for seniors to share a meal, play games, attend workshops, and interact with other seniors in the community.

While Dayton, Minnesota does not have very many businesses within its city limits it is home to 4 golf courses and an iconic place of worship. The St. John the Baptist Catholic Church is located on the highest point in the city and can be seen from miles around. It is one of the city’s most famous locations. For residents desiring greater shopping, dining, community events, entertainment, or employment options, the surrounding communities are the answer. Dayton is near the much larger cities of Brooklyn Park, Maple Grove, and Plymouth. While these cities offer far more amenities and community events, they lack the distinct rural feel and open space that Dayton provides. Additionally, Dayton is only about 30 miles from Minneapolis, meaning the excitement of the big city is still within close driving distance.

Living within Dayton is a lifestyle choice. For those who prefer peace and open space as opposed to the hustle and bustle of the city, Dayton is the perfect choice for living. Its proximity to the cities offer rich amenities give Dayton the best of both worlds. Residents are able to have living space out in the country while also enjoying suburban comforts.
