The city of Shorewood, Minnesota has a community that is highly involved with it’s neighboring cities. As a part of the Lake Minnetonka family of cities, Shorewood benefits from a number of regional events that take place in and around the lake. In addition to these larger community events, Shorewood also offers it’s residents a wealth of local amenities.

Some of the larger, community events around the Lake Minnetonka region include farmer’s markets, concerts in local parks, and the Lake Minnetonka 4th of July celebration. All of these events are made available for Shorewood’s residents, with many taking place in the neighboring city of Excelsior. While most of these occur during the summer months, when the weather is warm and the lake is open, there are still events that occur in the winter time. The most celebrated event of the winter, is the annual Arctic Fever. This event is done in conjunction with neighboring cities on the frozen Lake Minnetonka and engages families of all ages in outdoor winter activities and races. With fat tire bike races, snowshoeing, ice skating, geocaching, sledding, snow sculpting, a chili cook-off, and plenty more contests, this event is a ton of fun and always draws in big crowds.

Shorewood offers some of its own community events. Most occur at the local parks and include summer camps, free outdoor movies, family storytime at the park, sports instruction camps, visits from the Minnesota Zoomobile, kite making and geocaching classes, and community gardens. Residents of Shorewood are often found enjoying time with one another at the local parks and attending community events like the ones described.

The amenities in Shorewood are plentiful. One of the most popular is the Southshore Community Center. Located within the city of Shorewood itself, the Southshore Community Center services the residents of several communities in the Lake Minnetonka area. It offers a wide variety of community events as well as community education classes. Another amenity that residents can make use of are the community education classes offered by Minnetonka Community Education in Excelsior. With a wide variety of classes to explore, residents can enjoy community education at a low cost.

Because of its close proximity to the popular Lake Minnetonka, the city of Shorewood is truly a beautiful place to live. It is close enough to Minneapolis, St. Paul, and larger, neighboring suburbs, that it can enjoy the benefits of big-city life. However, it is still far enough away to retain it’s more charming and private nature. The locals enjoy a close-knit community centered on lakeshore living. With top-notch dining, entertainment, and commercial locations just a short drive away, the residents of Shorewood are in the perfect location for comfortable living.
