The city of Stillwater offers a diversity of parks, trails, facilities and recreational activities.  Throughout Stillwater, residents can find places to have gatherings such as weddings and reunions, to play, have a picnic, swim, bicycle, hike, ice skate, cross country ski, play soccer or basketball.

There are over 30 parks in the city of Stillwater. Many of these parks can be found in neighborhoods and provide a variety of amenities, many of which can be reserved. Just some of the amenities include picnic shelters, tables, electricity, grills, beaches, bathroom sites, drinking fountains, playgrounds, ball fields, horseshoe pits, volleyball courts, tennis courts, basketball courts, outdoor skating rinks, sledding hills, concessions and amphitheaters. Some of the parks have gazebos, picnic shelters, and even a barn that can be reserved for picnics, reunions, birthday parties and even weddings.  The Friends of Stillwater Area Dog Park offers a fenced in, leash-free area to promote responsible dog ownership through community-based recreation and education.  An outdoor skateboarding park can be found behind the Stillwater Recreation Center for experienced and inexperienced skateboarders alike. Three pickle ball courts and three outdoor skating rinks can be found throughout the city. A community garden is also available for residents and a small group of volunteers manages it as well as planning activities, making improvements, and serve as liaisons with the community.

Stillwater also has a volunteer community organization, called Friends of Stillwater Parks, who is dedicated to promoting community involvement, stewardship of natural resources, and educational and recreational involvement within Stillwater parks.  They even offer grants to groups that want to put together special events, educational programs in the parks, and conduct projects that reduce invasive plants.

The trails found throughout the city of Stillwater are beautiful and are composed of everything from natural wood chipped to paved bituminous surfaces, including bridges and stairs, providing a variety of activity for the community. Groomed, cross country ski trails, open to skiers and hikers, are available as well and are located in the Brown’s Creek Nature Preserve Area.
