This district is the largest in the state as it enrolls over 38,000 students annually and serves all or parts of 13 different cities. It is the primary mission of the Anoka-Hennepin School District to effectively educate each of its students for success. This district has twenty-four elementary schools, six middle schools, and five high schools, plus an  award-winning Community Education program.

The award-winning Community Education within the district offers a wide variety of classes and activities for all ages. Early Childhood Family Education offers classes, events, playtimes and other opportunities that allow parents to understand their children in the best ways possible. An array of activities are offered for youth as well, as its program helps them reach their teen years. Even those 18 and older are able to find something at this fascinating place.

The local elementary school is Madison Elementary School. The building is a single story, square shaped, brick structure covering 57,000 square feet. It is located on ten acres of land in the middle of a quiet and peaceful residential area in Blaine. Madison started with 950 students in 1987. Madison was the first “million dollar elementary school” in the entire district District. The school includes 24 classrooms, 3 kindergarten rooms, and 4 smaller bonus rooms. A center courtyard is filled with plants, and the property also contains a play area.

Roosevelt Middle School started as a junior high school in 1965, helping students in grades 7-9. However, in 1992, Roosevelt reorganized into a middle school serving grades six, seven and eight. Currently, Roosevelt Middle School has about 68 teachers, counselors, special service staff, and principal; a full food and custodial service that aids 1,150 students. These students live in the communities of Blaine, Ham Lake, Andover, and Coon Rapids. The students usually attend Blaine High School when they leave Roosevelt.

Starting in 1972, Blaine High School became one of the main high school in the largest school district of Minnesota. They developed interdisciplinary block scheduling, differentiated staffing, and the dean system in the mid to late 1980’s. BHS was also instrumental in the district movements towards Mastery Learning and Outcome-Based Education. The creativeness of the staff and faculty at BHS has allowed the school to think outside the box of outdated educational models, and has set the stage for a “student centered” academic program. BHS can be described as pioneering, student-focused, and passionate. Currently BHS runs on a five-period day with three trimesters.
